Sick (fit) notes

If you’ve been off sick for more than 7 days

To request a sick note, please contact us via accuRx.

Once we have received your request, one of our admin team will save the request to your record, and book in a time for one of the clinicians to review your request. In most cases, the clinician will be able to issue the sick note without needing to speak to you directly, and you will be sent a copy of the note by email or text. Sometimes the clinician looking at your request will need to give you a quick call to confirm any extra details, and occasionally you will be asked to book a consultation with a GP to discuss your illness before the practice can issue your sick note.

If you would like a hard copy please come to the practice once you have been notified that the sick note is ready so we can print a copy off for you.

Whilst we will do our best to provide you with a sick note as soon as possible, at busy times there may be a wait of a few days or more. In general we aim to turn requests around within 2 working days but this could be up to a week depending on demand. If you need something to show your employer whilst you wait, please let us know via accuRx and we can send you a text confirming that we are processing your request.

Sick notes can be issued after the first day that they cover. If there are delays in processing your request we will still be able to provide a note covering any previous days of absence.

Sick notes cannot be issued before the first day that they cover. If you have applied for a sick note to start later than the day you have requested it, the earliest you will receive the sick note is the day the absence covered by the note begins.

If you’ve been off sick for 7 days or less

If you’re off work sick for 7 days or less, your employer should not ask for medical evidence that you’ve been ill. Instead, they can ask you to confirm that you’ve been ill. You can do this by filling in a form yourself when you return to work. This is known as self-certification.
